Your ATS score, and why you're not getting calls
Upload your resume and paste the job you want. You get your score out of 100 and the five reasons a recruiter may skip it, with the lines from your own document that caused each, then every rubric point underneath. Same engine that scores every resume we deliver; nothing ships below 80.

Five reasons a recruiter may skip a resume
The check reads for these before it counts a point, and reports each one with the lines that caused it.
Your impact isn't visible
Most of your bullets describe what you were responsible for. One or two show what changed because you were there. A recruiter cannot size the work, so they cannot rank you, so they move on.
Your resume doesn't match the role
The posting asks for a dozen specific things. Your resume evidences a few of them. A generic word you happen to share with the requirement is not evidence of it, and the software knows the difference better every year.
Your seniority isn't coming through
Your title says Senior Manager. Your bullets read like an individual contributor: tasks, tools, tickets. Eight years of experience, presented like three. This is the one experienced people miss most.
The system never got a clean read
Two columns, your email in the page header, dates without months, a photo where the summary should be. The software built a broken timeline before a person read a word, and nobody tells you.
Nothing on the page to hold on to
Forty-word bullets, weak verbs, a summary that could belong to anyone in your batch. The first ten seconds decide whether the next thirty happen.
What the 100 points are made of
Nothing here is a black box, and it is not an ATS score, because no ATS publishes one. This is the whole rubric, weights included, so you can disagree with it.
Quantified impact
Bullets carrying a real number. Full marks at 70%. The heaviest single category, because it is what a recruiter sizes you by.
Keyword match
Coverage against the job description you paste, or the role vocabulary you pick. Full marks at 60%; near-total overlap is penalised as stuffing.
Section structure
Summary, experience, education and skills present, plus parseable employment dates.
Contact details
Email, phone and a profile URL a parser can actually extract from the body.
Action verbs
Strong openings, and no “responsible for”, “worked on” or “helped with”.
Bullet length
Twelve to forty-two words. Shorter has no room for outcome; longer stops being read.
Then the deductions
Format and hygiene violations come off the top, capped at 20 points total.
- Multi-column or table layout — −5
- Image-only or graphics-heavy file — −5
- Date of birth, marital status, declaration blocks — up to −5
- First-person pronouns — −2
- Long blocks of capitals — −2
Six ways a good resume gets thrown out
Every one of these is invisible until something reads your file the way a machine does.
Two-column templates
The single biggest killer. Parsers read left to right across the whole page, so your sidebar skills end up interleaved with your job titles.
Contact details in the header
Many parsers skip page headers and footers entirely. Your email may simply not exist as far as the system is concerned.
Creative section names
“My Journey” and “What I Bring” read beautifully to a human and mean nothing to a parser looking for “Work Experience”.
Skills as icons or rating bars
Five filled stars next to “Python” carries exactly zero machine-readable information, and tells a human nothing either.
Dates without months
“2021 – 2023” leaves the system guessing at tenure. Consistent “Mar 2021 – Jun 2023” builds a clean timeline.
A resume exported as an image
Design tools and some “beautiful CV” sites export flattened graphics. The page looks perfect and contains no text at all.
What people ask before they upload
How do I check if my resume is ATS friendly?
Upload it here. The check parses the file the way an applicant tracking system does, reads it against the job you paste or the role you pick, and reports five areas: evidence, role match, seniority, parsing and readability, each with the lines that caused the finding. If the text cannot be extracted at all, that is your answer already. A resume a parser cannot read scores near zero no matter how good it looks on screen.
Is this resume checker free?
Yes. No card, no account, no sales call, and nothing held back behind a paywall. It runs the same engine used on paid work, so what you see is the real reading.
Is this a real ATS score?
No, and neither is anybody else's. No applicant tracking system publishes a score. The number here is Resume Proof's own 100-point rubric, built from how parsers and recruiters actually behave and published in full on this page, so you can argue with it. The five findings above the number are what to act on.
What score do I actually need?
Eighty on the rubric is the line every resume we deliver has to clear before it leaves, and it is the number worth aiming for whether you fix it yourself or hand it over. Below 60 the problem is usually structural rather than a matter of wording. But the number is the summary; the five findings are the work.
Does this work for Indian resumes and job portals?
Yes, and it is built for them. It flags the conventions Western tools ignore entirely: photographs, date of birth, marital status, father's name and declaration blocks, all of which cost points and none of which help. Naukri, Workday, Taleo, Greenhouse and Lever all depend on the same fundamentals this checks. The role library covers over a hundred Indian functions in twelve sectors, from pharma quality to field sales.
What file types can I upload?
PDF, DOCX or TXT, up to 5 MB. A PDF exported from a design tool as a flattened image will parse as empty, which is itself worth knowing before you send it to fourteen more companies.
What happens to my resume after the check?
It is parsed to text and scored, and the file is kept in private storage for 90 days so a person can review it if you buy anything. It is deleted automatically after that, never shared with employers, never sold, and you can have it deleted sooner by emailing hello.resumeproof@gmail.com.
