The eight questions for Mechanical Design

The guided builder asks these, in this order, and turns each answer into a line on the page. Nothing is written that you did not type.

  1. 1.How many parts, assemblies or drawings have you released?
  2. 2.Which CAD and simulation tools do you use daily, and to what depth?
  3. 3.What is the largest assembly you have owned, by part count?
  4. 4.Have you taken a design from concept to production? How long did it take?
  5. 5.How much cost or weight have you taken out of a design?
  6. 6.How many design reviews, DFMEA or tolerance stack ups have you led?
  7. 7.Which standards and materials do you design to?
  8. 8.How many suppliers or vendors do you work with on manufacturability?

Words are the easy half

A resume can carry every term above and still be rejected, because coverage says what you know and nothing about what you delivered. The heaviest category on the rubric is evidence: how many of your bullets carry an actual figure.

Seven in ten is full marks. Most resumes we see manage two.
